Janet Jensen
Detail of Vessel of Small Song
Janet Jensen, a Maryland resident, grew up on the prairie of South Dakota. She has traveled throughout the United States accumulating her references and sketches for the landscapes and flowers she paints. Her pastel "paintings" reflect her love for color, achieving an intensity of tonal values uncharacteristic of pastel. The works shown here are the result of four years of experimenting and working with the concept of using beeswax as a ground to hold and enrich the pastel, by adding a rich texture otherwise not possible with this medium. As a result of the thicker texture of the beeswax, Ms. Jensen's style has become less realistic. Her landscape scenes have a refreshing quality in their almost impressionistic appearance.
